It’s halfway through February, and do you know what? I haven’t done a single winter activity, like skiing, snowshoeing or sledding. I keep meaning to, and then the cold, wind or rain, well...rains on my parade. If you’re in the same camp as me, then you’ll find a few great excuses to check these activities off your winter bucket list this weekend. There’s also a Mardi Gras party, magic show, craft projects, some epic music performances, and more. See what’s coming up this weekend, and as always, have a great one!
1) High & Mighty Brass Band Mardi Gras Party
Where: ArtsRiot, 400 pine Street, Burlington
When: Friday, 8PM-11PM
Mardi Gras is on Tuesday the 25th, and the weekend before is usually a big one for celebrations. You may not be able to celebrate in New Orleans, but you can experience the next best thing at ArtsRiot this Friday, when they celebrate Mardi Gras with a live performance from the High & Mighty Brass Band. 2) Masters of Illusion Live
Where: Flynn Center for the Performing Arts, 154 Main Street, Burlington
When: Friday, 8PM-10PM
As you might imagine, this is a magic show, and how often can you claim to see one of those around here? I think the last time would have been during the Festival of Fools back in August (unless you count each month when my money seems to “magically” disappear from my bank account). Anywho… catch this performance with a “modern spin on time-tested illusions.” This show has been performed all over the U.S., and to millions on the CW Network. For Event Info & Tickets >>
3) Webby’s Art Studio: Animal Books
Where: Shelburne Museum, 6000 Shelburne Road, Shelburne
When: Saturday, 11AM-3PM
Feeling crafty? Take your kid(s) to the Pizzagalli Center for Art and Education at the Shelburne Museum this Saturday for a fun, family-friendly activity. You’ll create a pop-up book inspired by the animals found in their Creature Comfort: Animals in the House exhibit. For Event Info >>

Kellie DeCicco will walk you through some instruction, while you relax, paint, and sip from your favorite beverage. One $5 drink is included in the ticket cost, and you’ll leave with your very own 12” x 17” piece of artwork. For Event Info & Tickets >>
5) Star Wars and Beyond: The Music of John Williams
Where: Flynn Center for the Performing Arts, 153 Main St, Burlington
When: Saturday, 7:30PM-9:30PM
Yes, the Flynn Center appears on this week’s list twice, but I mean… magic and Star Wars. Did I even have a choice? No, I did not. Guest conductor Troy Peters and the VSO takes you through the iconic works of composer John Williams. His work composing for films like Jurassic Park, E.T., Indiana Jones, and Star Wars earned him Academy Awards, Golden Globes, and Grammy’s. Basically, he’s a super talented film composer, and this a great opportunity to hear the VSO perform some of his epic scores. Did I mention Star Wars? For Event Info & Tickets >>
