As we look forward to our summer, we should all expect that events will be fairly different this year. You’re probably saying, “duh!” right now, especially if you’ve heard about the cancellation of big events this year, like the Champlain Valley Fair. In an effort to keep the event going, but also keep people safe, the Burlington Discover Jazz Festival has gone completely virtual this year. The Burlington Farmers Market is back, but with social distancing guidelines in place.
While I know it’s disappointing to lose out on a time-honored tradition, or to have an anticipated event or activity changed in a significant way, this is just what we need to do right now. As I always say to my toddler, “safety first!” And hopefully next year, we’ll be looking at a very different summer.
For now, we’re still looking at a lot of online events, and I’m grateful that these options exist. I’m grateful to these businesses who were able to rise to this very difficult challenge, and still provide an entertainment or educational outlet for our community. Many businesses, artists and musicians continue to struggle, so let’s continue to support them in any way that we can.
And of course, get out and enjoy some fresh air too, as often as you can.
